Violet Cabin in the wintertime.

Whenever we travel, especially during the winter, one of the first things we look for is accommodation with a sauna. There is something so lovely about spending a cold day outdoors and knowing that a warm sauna is waiting when you return. To make your own search a little easier, we’ve put together this list of cosy winter cabins with saunas in the Shuswap, BC.

Winter is a wonderful time to explore the Shuswap. Once the busy summer season winds down, the region becomes quieter, slower and beautifully snowy. There is cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter walking, along with small communities, restaurants and local places to discover. Whether you are planning a romantic weekend, a family getaway or a trip with friends, these seven cabin stays and retreats each offer their own version of winter warmth.

Here are seven unique places to consider for your next winter getaway.

Tin Poppy Retreat — Larch Hills near Salmon Arm

We may be a little biased, but we’ll begin close to home. Tin Poppy Retreat is tucked into 160 private forested acres in the Larch Hills, between Salmon Arm and Enderby. Our three year-round cabins—Lavender, Violet and Wild Rose—each have their own private wood-fired sauna.

The cabins are surrounded by more than 14 kilometres of private trails for snowshoeing, quiet forest walks and adventurous bush skiing. The Larch Hills Nordic ski area, with over 100 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails, is also only about 10 minutes away.

Lavender Cabin is our larger timber-framed cabin and works beautifully for families or groups. Violet Cabin is an off-grid cabin for couples, small families and guests who want trails and adventure right outside the door. Wild Rose is our most romantic little cabin, with a king bed, wood stove and a very private setting in the forest.

After a day outside, you can light your sauna, settle into the warmth and perhaps even try a roll in the snow before returning to the fire. It is a simple and restorative kind of winter luxury.

Shuswap Cedar Cabin — Sorrento

Shuswap Cedar Cabin offers a more modern and luxurious interpretation of a forest cabin. This thoughtfully designed two-bedroom retreat is surrounded by trees and filled with natural light, with soaring ceilings, large windows and a dramatic wood-burning stove at the centre of the living space.

The cabin sleeps up to four guests and includes a chef-inspired kitchen, two full bathrooms, beautiful bedding and a deep soaking tub. Outside, a private cedar sauna adds a lovely wellness element to a winter stay.

This would be a good choice for couples or friends who want the atmosphere of a cabin in the woods while still enjoying plenty of modern comfort.

Journey’s End — White Lake

Journey’s End is a cosy 700-square-foot log cabin near White Lake. The property backs onto Crown land, with direct access to trails for hiking, mountain biking and exploring, while White Lake is only a couple of minutes away.

The cabin sleeps up to three people and has a full kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi and a comfortable deck overlooking the trees. An outdoor cedar sauna sits just steps from the cabin, making it an especially appealing little retreat during the colder months.

Journey’s End feels suited to a couple or small group looking for a peaceful and private cabin with a classic log-cabin atmosphere.

Historic Finnish Log Cabin — White Lake

For something small, rustic and full of character, this historic Finnish log cabin sits on a six-acre property near White Lake. The approximately 100-year-old cabin is simple and cosy rather than polished, making it a lovely option for anyone drawn to an authentic little cabin experience.

The lake is a short walk away, and an optional lakeside sauna makes it possible to enjoy a traditional hot-and-cold experience. In winter, the area receives plenty of snow and offers opportunities for snowshoeing, tobogganing and ice fishing when conditions are safe.

The cabin is best suited to a couple, although it can accommodate a small family. Winter visitors should arrive with proper winter tires, as the rural driveway can be snowy.

White Lake Cabins — Sorrento

White Lake Cabins is a small collection of cabins tucked between the forest and White Lake. The property is designed around disconnecting from everyday life and spending time outside, with both studio and two-bedroom cabin options.

Guests can also book a Nordic-inspired hydrotherapy session for an additional fee. The experience combines time in the hot sauna with a cold plunge, repeated over a 75-minute session. This is an onsite wellness experience rather than a private sauna attached to each individual cabin, but it offers a wonderful reason to embrace the cold rather than hide from it.

White Lake Cabins would appeal to travellers who enjoy a relaxed lakeside setting and want to incorporate a more structured sauna-and-cold-plunge experience into their getaway.

Shuswap Lakeview Dome — Blind Bay

For something a little different, Shuswap Lakeview Dome is a secluded off-grid stay for two in the forest near Blind Bay. The small geodesic dome has a queen bed, large windows, an indoor fireplace and a covered outdoor area, while private propane-heated soaking tubs sit among the trees.

The property also offers a private seasonal wood-fired sauna on its forest-view spa deck. Because both the sauna and winter access can be weather-dependent, confirm that they are available for your dates before booking. This is a genuinely off-grid stay with no electricity, refrigeration or shower, so it is best suited to guests who are comfortable with a more rustic experience.

Blind Bay Chalet — Blind Bay

Blind Bay Chalet is a comfortable two-bedroom suite with views across Shuswap Lake and the surrounding mountains. It has a private entrance, Wi-Fi, a patio with a barbecue, a compact cooking area and its own dry sauna.

The host lives upstairs, so this is not a completely standalone cabin in the woods. However, it would suit guests who want a sauna getaway with easier access to the beach, shops, restaurants and other Blind Bay amenities.

Planning a Winter Cabin Getaway in the Shuswap

Winter is quieter in the Shuswap, but it also requires a little more preparation. Before booking, confirm the property’s current winter availability, sauna arrangements and road-access recommendations. Good winter tires are essential for rural and mountain properties, and some locations may recommend four-wheel or all-wheel drive after a heavy snowfall.

It is also worth checking what is supplied for the sauna. Some properties include firewood, towels and robes, while others charge an additional sauna or hydrotherapy fee. If you plan to ski or snowshoe, ask about trail conditions and whether equipment rentals are available nearby.

A winter getaway in the Shuswap can be as adventurous or as quiet as you want it to be. Spend the day cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or exploring, then come home to a warm cabin and sauna. If you are searching for cosy winter cabins with saunas in the Shuswap, BC, we hope this list helps you find the right place—and perhaps inspires you to experience a private wood-fired sauna here at Tin Poppy Retreat.

Accommodation details can change. Please confirm current winter access, availability, rates and sauna arrangements directly with each property before booking.
