1. Move the damper to the “Open” or “Start” position.
2. Place crumpled newspaper in the stove and cover it with small pieces of kindling.
3. Light the newspaper, then gradually add larger pieces of firewood.
4. Once the fire is burning well, adjust the damper halfway or more closed. A more open damper burns hotter; a more closed damper burns longer.
